Quick update, as I only have 15 minutes until I get to go home!
I am horrible at keeping up this blog. Its been, what, almost a month! Well, on October 25 we took all our bikes up to the Silver Comet Trail. We had initially planned on doing a 12 mile round trip ride. At least thats the impression I was under. We got there and Jon's dad said, "There is a historic tunnel at mile 32 I'd like to go to." Ok. It was mile 14.6 where we got on the trail. Ok, 17 miles one way. 34 miles round trip. Lets go for it! So we all head out, excited and racing each other.
Almost 2 hours later we get to said tunnel. It was actually really neat. It was a really long tunnel, and the trail to that point was so pretty. It felt like you were in the mountains. Since the trail is an old rail bed, the grade is very moderate, and the hills are cut into, thus simulating being in the mountains. Along our ride, we met a family of like, 10. They were biking from Smyrna all the way to Alabama! I can't even begin to imagine how long that is. I think it is like 42 miles or something.
At the tunnel, FIL is like, "Hey, there is a nice lake 2.5 miles up, lets go to that! There is a service station there and bathrooms." So we were like, sure whats 5 more miles! We made it, ate a snack and decided it was time to head back.
About 5 miles from the car, we hit the wall. Whats 5 more miles?! We would be to the car by now if we hadn't gone to the lake! Our total mileage was around 38.5 miles! Total trip time was a little over 6 hours! I can't believe we went that long. Our legs were like jello, our rears were hurting, and we were so tired. But it was so much fun!
All in all, it was a fabulous bike ride. We are doing it again on November 8. Except, not so long...
