So, I am undertaking a (relatively) small craft project for the little girl's room. (Oh, by the way, we finally have a name picked out, but I'll wait until the 30 weeks survey to reveal that.)
So, here is the fabric we are using:
I love love love it. It is girly, but not froo-froo. Actually, its something that I would choose for my own bedroom.
Unfortunately, we were only able to get 4 yards of this, so it will become a window topper. Because I wanted more of this fabric/pattern in the room, I decided to replicate some of the flowers, leaves, and branches by painting it onto canvas. Of course I am painting 3 canvases, because you are supposed to decorate in 3's, and we had a big wall that they would look good on.
Now, I have never done anything like this, so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. That, and I don't have an artistic bone in my body. But with a little help from my artistically gifted friend of 25 years, we talked through how we thought would be the best way to do this.
Get ready, because here come pictures showing how I did it and my progress up to now...

First I had to figure out how to get the picture onto the canvas without having to attempt (and probably fail) to do it free hand. Here we have tracing paper, and transfer paper. Its very similar to carbon paper, and just as messy. And of course canvases, but you know what those look like.

After I picked out what pictures I wanted to have on my canvas, I traced them.

And here is what it looks like once its transferred onto the canvas.

Then I got busy painting. I used acrylic paints, because I figured they would be easiest to work with. The blue background is actually the same latex paint used to paint the walls. Also, I had a heck of a time matching all the shades of green. I didn't know it at the time, but after studying the fabric I realized there is no less than 8 different shades of green.

But, I am very pleased (and a little proud) with how it is coming out thus far. I have one of the canvases done, all I have to do is outline everything. I need to be rested for that - I gotta have a steady hand.

So what do you think?
