I finished!!

The Savannah River Bridge Run was awesome! I finished in less than 40 minutes (hey, I'm a slow runner who is out of shape, I'll take what I can get), and I only stopped on the uphill of the bridge. That bridge is no joke. Slightly over a mile long and a 5.5% grade. Yikes! Jon actually did a lot better than he let on that he would. He has been saying ever since we signed up that he would be walking. He didn't walk, he ran, and faster than me!

The race went smoothly. It was around 43* when the race started. Cool enough to be cold while we were waiting, but once we started running, the weather was perfect. The only think I didn't like was the permeating smell of the paper mills up river. Ugh, it was absolutely horrible. I think I could smell it in my nostrils for the rest of the day. But as my dad would say "smells like money".

The only qualms I had with my race was my clothing. I had bought an UnderArmor shirt to keep me warm, and that kept riding up, so I was continuously pulling it down. On top of that, my underwear were falling down, so I was always pulling them up. I don't know what was up that day. I have worn those underwear before when I was running. Quite aggravating.

My official finish time was 37:42. Jon's was 39:39. The only reason he was behind me was because he had to stop to pee. The boy couldn't hold it 800 meters! That and the lady in in front of him took forever in the port-o-potty.

After the race was a keepsake towel, free smoothies, beer, poweraide, fruit, bagels, doughnuts, and brunswick stew. That was some good stew! Just what we needed to keep our bodies warm now that we had cooled down.

We took a tolley down to River Street and a Ferry boat across the river to where we were parked. We were back at the hotel by 10:30! And what was so great is that we still had the entire day ahead of us. So we went Christmas shopping!
