Well, I did it. I signed us up this morning for the Peachtree Road Race. I set my alarm for 6:45, intending to get the online form all filled out ready to hit submit as soon as the clock rolled over to 7:00. I get the webpage up, and apparently they don't do it that way, I will have to wait until 7 to even access the page. OK, whatever, I can work with that.
I do a little internet surfing for 10 minutes then I check back to the page at 6:56. Its open! I can start. I click on the link to take me to the form, and what pops up on my screen? "We're sorry, but the webpage you are trying to access is experiencing high traffic. Please check back later." Great. OK, no biggie, I didn't come into this expecting there to be no glitches. I continued to try to get into it for 10 minutes to no avail. So I went back to bed.
8:30 I rolled out of bed and rushed back to the computer (for some reason I had it in my mind that all the spots, all 40,000 of them, would fill up within the first few hours.) Success! I can access the page. I fill out all the info, click submit, and what do my eyes see! Error message. Argh.
Finally, after trying for 30 minutes, Victory is mine!! I guess they fixed the glitches they were having, because I got myself and Jon registered. Hooray! I guess this means we have 16 weeks to train and get in shape for the 90+ degree and 100% humidity weather that will prevail in downtown Atlanta on July 4. Wish me luck!
*edited to add: I was looking around the website a few days later. Apparently with the online registration, all 40,000 slots were filled up by 2 PM on the day of registration. Thank goodness I was persistent in getting registered as soon as I could that morning.
